A YOUNG GIRL FROM DETROIT
FALLS IN LOVE WITH MUSIC...

Pamela Dawson was born in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest and only girl among nine children born to Leo and Shirley Wilson. At the age of seven, Pamela's musical odyssey began under the guidance of her father, who introduced her to the enchanting world of the piano. Her dedication and love for music only grew as she pursued her education, ultimately graduating from Cass Technical High School as a Vocational Music Major. Building on her musical talents, Pamela went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communications & Theater, specializing in music and business, from Eastern Michigan University. She delved deeper into the world of music, studying harp with esteemed mentors like Ruth Myers and the late Lucille Lawrence.

Pamela began her teaching career in 1995, and was the Head Choral Director at several high schools in the Detroit metropolitan area. In addition to teaching in Detroit, she served as a Minister of Music and founded the Adoration Music Ministry. With a desire to explore new horizons, Pamela made the move to Texas, where she currently resides. Pamela's talent and dedication to her community did not go unnoticed, as she was appointed Chair of the DeSoto Arts Commission for six years.

Pamela's illustrious teaching career now spans an impressive 28 years, with the last 17 years at DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Under her guidance, the choirs she directs have consistently earned prestigious sweepstake ratings in contests and sight-reading competitions, as well as receiving accolades such as Best in Class and Outstanding Performance awards at festivals. Her commitment to excellence has taken her students to incredible heights, including performances at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall, Hawaii, and even international tours in London, England.

Pamela is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, American Harp Society, Texas Choral Directors Association, and the Texas Music Educators Association. In 2022, she was inducted into the DeSoto ISD Hall of Honor. In 2023, Pamela was honored as the Grammy Music Educator of the Year, a prestigious accolade that recognizes her exceptional talent, unwavering commitment, and transformative impact on the field of music education. This recognition has catapulted her into the spotlight as a sought-after speaker, championing the cause of music advocacy, the interpretation of text, and the healing power of music.

While Pamela's professional accomplishments are undoubtedly impressive, her greatest joy lies in her family. She treasures the bond she shares with her two daughters, Elizabeth and Mariah, as well as her granddaughter Rhylee, who bring immense love and happiness to her life.

Pamela Dawson stands as a beacon of inspiration, a passionate educator, and a true ambassador of music.
